The first time I heard about them was when a friend of mine gave me an handmade drawing book, it was very well crafted with a cover in a beautiful textile and marble paper inside. My friend told me that these kind of books were made by disable people in a social association very close the place where I live in the centre of Portugal. This was in 2008 and since there I visited the bindery several times. The name of the workshop is ‘Slowlybindingtogofaraway’. It is not a craft activity for economical reasons but for social wellbeing. Each book is a treasure, choosing the cloth is a trip to another town, choosing the drawings for silk printing the cover is a long conversation, each detail is a precious moment, time has a different meaning, in the true dimension of Craft work.
